What is the Masterson Method®?

"The Masterson Method® is a unique, interactive method of equine bodywork to help build trust with the horse. Years of stress and stiffness can often be resolved in a few sessions, by relieving built-up tension in core muscles and key junctions of the body that affect the horse’s performance.

With The Masterson Method®, you learn to recognize and use the responses of the horse to find and release tension. This participation and interaction are what makes the method fulfilling for those who use it and transformational for the horse. Testimonial after testimonial describe radically improved performance, movement, behavior, and relationship with the owner, as a result of The Masterson Method®."

What is Tellington TTouch?

The Tellington TTouch Method is a gentle, respectful and positive approach to handling and training horses that incorporates observation, bodywork, groundwork and riding exercises.

The bodywork component of the Tellington TTouch consists of circular TTouches and lifts that are done all over the body. While TTouch may resemble massage it is rather a message to the body, with the primary intention not to work with muscles, but to work with the nervous system and remind the body of its perfect function. It makes a connection to fascia, the limbic system and to the emotions. This work provides ongoing activation of both hemispheres of the brain - the intuitive and the logical.

The groundwork component of the Tellington TTouch consists of slow, mindful movements that build muscles at a deeper level than fast movement. Movements done slowly can help break habits and lay down new neural pathways.

“Through bodywork and mindful ground exercises we can help improve physical balance which creates self-carriage. When animals are in balance physically, they tend to feel safer. When animals feel safer they are more self-confident in their environment and can more easily oblige our requests. An animal who is self-confident has more self-control and can act rather than simply react to stimuli. This makes for a more cooperative, balanced animal who is operating in a thinking state.”

Testimonials

  • "I just had to share that I rode Wistful yesterday, and my trainer was able to film our ride, and WOW. I have never seen her move so relaxed and fluidly! I think the bodywork is helping her so much. My trainer said so too. I just wanted to thank you!"

  • "I do believe that Heelow really got a lot out of your work, Lizzi. He seems more outwardly engaged with his surroundings. He walks up to meet us when we enter his corral and he continues to do so after 6 months. Before your work on him, he just waited, stoically, for us to approach. I think the 'new and more content' Heelow is here to stay."

    - Janice C. at Montana Horse Sense -

  • "Bravada felt AMAZING today, and our trainer noticed big changes. Pony was relaxed over her back, easier to bend, and even in rhythm. Please stay in touch - we definitely want to work with you more!"

    - Chris S. at Cottonwood Arena -

  • "I've been able to ride Mel twice now and she is galloping through the field feeling great. After you worked on her she improved so much!"
